NxtGenSchools

The SoHK flagship programme, a year-long programme embedded in no/low fee schools in Cape Town.

In 2026, working with 1000 youth in 6 schools.

Despite South Africa’s large investment in basic education, about 40% of Grade 1 learners will exit the South African schooling system before reaching Grade 12 and less than half will gain matric. Without matric, youth are more likely to remain unemployed and stuck in poverty for life as extended joblessness can lead to chronic unemployment and mental health issues. A more emotionally regulated child, shows prosocial behaviour, can retain knowledge, and make better decisions.

Quote by Ms Monnig, Acting Principal, Good Hope Seminary High School: "We have seen a remarkable difference across the entire grade, and the teachers agree, undoubtedly, that is all due to SoHK."
Quote by Captain October, SAPS: "At Hard Knocks they have a sense of belonging or some sort of brotherhood, maybe they don’t have that at home, but they are getting it here."
Quote by Mr Isaacs, Principal, Harold Cressy High School: "The grade 9 teachers all comment on how the whole vibe of the grade has changed, they are calm and more in control of themselves."

Changing Trajectories Through Rugby and Resilience

By combining an "evidence-based life skills through touch rugby" curriculum with mental health services we give vulnerable youth from under-resourced communities tools to better deal with the adverse childhood events that they have suffered, reducing the likelihood they will engage in risky or destructive social behaviours.
