What we achieved

Learners improved their behaviour

They have accepted the authority of teachers which they never did before. They would have ignored us in the past, loiter, leave the premises whenever they want to but that has changed.
— Teacher, Vista High

We have seen a significant decrease in referrals for poor behaviour with a majority of students having improved their behaviour in just three terms. What’s more impressive is a 45% growth in 'No' issues between Term 1 and Term 3 with a 96% drop in learners having 'Many' behavioural issues in Term 3

Learners improved their life skills

The TPSR methodology encourages children to take responsibility and adopt higher values through a series of steps or Levels they help to create.

Individually they now have the belief in themselves, they feel that they want to take responsibility - “I believe a little more in myself, I am standing up for myself”- there is a little bit more confidence. There is a sense of belonging, I belong to this group
— Mrs Stuurman, Harold Cressy

Each squad of learners then holds themselves accountable during the session to the rules and positive behaviours they set themselves e.g. Level 0 students interfere with others rights to learn and do so on their own time! Level 2 students respect others right to learn while Level 3 students might actively encourage others to participate.

At the end of each session each squad rates their behaviour and over time they can track their progress. In the graph (right) we can see growth in positive behaviours through each week of the program.

I feel like we had a certain bond, we learned so much stuff. When I needed someone to talk to, whenever I needed to share something with someone, I knew Coach would be there, was always there for me

I like to be surrounded by real people, not fake people. (SOHK are) good company.
